Greg A. Coates

Mr. Coates graduated with Honors from University of California at Los Angeles in 1978, receiving a Bachelor's Degree in History. He attended law school at the University of Santa Clara and received his Juris Doctorate in 1981. Upon graduation from law school, Mr. Coates began practicing law at the San Luis Obispo law firm Burke, Smith, Helenius & Hayes, in 1982. In 1989, Mr. Coates became a principal in the San Luis Obispo law firm Radovich, Cumberland & Coates. He remained with that firm and its successor firms until 2010, when Coates & Coates LLP was formed.

Mr. Coates has practiced law on the Central Coast of California for his entire career. He has tried in excess of 50 Superior Court jury trials and approximately 15 court trials in diverse areas such as business disputes, personal injury, general torts, employment, construction defect, and education law. Mr. Coates has been a speaker at seminars involving education and employment issues. He has served as Judge Pro Tem for the Superior Court and has been on the Court Approved Panel of Arbitrators for civil matters in San Luis Obispo County. Mr. Coates is an "AV" rated attorney by Martindale-Hubbell and was selected to Southern California Super Lawyers in 2012.

Mr. Coates is a member of the San Luis Obispo County Bar Association and the Central Coast Chapter of the American Board of Trial Advocates. He is licensed to practice law in the State of California and is also licensed to practice law in both the California Northern and Central Districts of the Federal Court, and by the U.S. Court of Appeals (9th Circuit).
